Networking w/ other companies, brands, and bloggers has opened up so many doors for companies that otherwise would have never been known. Using social media also brings the online market to an otherwise closed door. Many companies, organizations and causes that I would have never known about came to my attention through online social media. Twitter, Facebook, My Space, and more have drawn my attention to many things I would never have known. Many more I have found through word of mouth, word of Blog, word of “tweet”…
Another plus is, as stated above, “joining the conversation” – the reps for these companies are not only developing relationships with other companies and bloggers but the readers as well. I, personally, have been tweeted to by company reps about concerns for a new product, thoughts on a better way to reach a target audience, and genuinely looking for our, the buyers, point of view. The perception of the company to the consumer is now why “we” choose that brand over another.
Using social media, joining the conversation, and reaching “outside the box” puts companies in our backyards. And not just ours but also in the backyards of the entire country, continent, and world! In turn, we leave our online communities and go out on our trips to the kids ball games, grocery trips, and appts and talk about who or what we have learned about. We become active in many causes now that we know about them. Social Media is the new “commercial” and it is reaching more people every day.
